How do I open the garage with no coverage or Internet using Bluetooth mode?
Published 11 June 2026
You can open the garage without Internet using PuertApp's Bluetooth mode: when your phone is near the device and there is no coverage, the app opens the door over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) instead of over the Internet. The command is validated with secure rotating credentials, so opening stays secure even with no connection to the cloud.
Why an offline mode is needed
Garages are usually in basements or lower floors where mobile coverage is poor or nonexistent. A solution that depends only on the Internet fails exactly when you need it most: standing in front of the door with no signal.
That is why PuertApp includes a Bluetooth mode. When it detects that you are near the garage and there is no connection, it opens the door directly over BLE between your phone and the device, without going through the cloud.
How Bluetooth opening works
When there is a connection, your phone securely stores the credentials needed to open without a network. When you arrive at the garage with no coverage, the app connects to the device over Bluetooth and sends the open command signed with those credentials. The device verifies it and triggers the remote.
The credentials rotate, so a captured command cannot be used to open later. This way, offline opening keeps a high security level without depending on the Internet at that moment.
Coverage, cloud and physical backup
Bluetooth mode does not replace remote opening over the Internet: it complements it. If you have coverage, you open from anywhere; if you do not but you are nearby, you open over Bluetooth. And as a final backup, your usual physical remote still works. Between the three paths, you are practically never locked out.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Internet to open over Bluetooth?
No. Bluetooth mode works without an Internet connection when you are near the device. A prior connection is only needed to sync the credentials.
Is it safe to open without Internet?
Yes. Bluetooth opening uses secure rotating credentials, so a command cannot be reused to open at another time.
How close do I need to be for Bluetooth?
It works when you are near the garage, within Bluetooth Low Energy range, typical for opening as you reach the door.
What if I do not have Bluetooth either?
Your community's physical remote still works as always, so you keep an extra backup to get in.
